Meetings and Lectures

Lectures and Practical Days

Upon request, Selfknowledge Today offers gatherings such as interactive lectures/meetings and practical days. These can take place with a small group, wherever desired. Initially, we discuss what the Work entails.

Interactive Meetings and Zooms

An interactive lecture or meeting is aimed at gaining insight into how we function as humans and the many aspects necessary to gain Self-knowledge (with a small and capital S). In order to discuss self-knowledge sensibly with each other, we will explore common concepts so that we can understand each other well, as words are often open to multiple interpretations. Streamlining our understanding in this way allows us to collectively discuss our inner selves and investigate the processes within without confusion. Many psychological and spiritual movements have generated various terminologies, some of which do not aid in inner development, and may even hinder it. Simplifying these concepts will also prevent mental gymnastics and quickly lead us from theory to practice. What we are discussing is, in essence, very simple.

Out of the Woods!

Can't see the forest for the trees? Leave the forest!

The complexity of our thoughts and feelings can be burdensome. It can feel like being lost in a forest, where the trees represent the confusion of thoughts and feelings. Take this photo as an example: the trees symbolize the confusion of thoughts and feelings.
We can soon leave this forest and enter an open, sunny meadow where insight naturally arises: True knowledge that already exists within us.

From there, our Work begins by examining that forest from a distance. Selfknowledge.nu serves as a guide, nothing more. True wisdom is already within us, that is always the starting point and it will become evident. After observing all those ‘trees’ representing our conditionings and tendencies, we can lovingly leave behind all that unrest. This is an uplifting and inspiring process that we need not fear. It will make us much lighter! Our thinking and feeling will be purified, allowing them to perform the tasks they are meant for, and our actions will follow accordingly.

The Fourth Way = Not-Two

We base our concepts on those recorded in the System of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky. This system of inner liberation is called the Fourth Way. Ouspensky was able to explain our mental state and potential development in very comprehensible and concise terms, mainly intended for the Western working person. He does not beat around the bush and is clear and precise.
Furthermore, Advaita Vedanta provides concepts and classifications because our mental capabilities and tools are very precisely described in it. We use what immediately serves us in our inner development. And we will theorize briefly but as little as possible, as it is about daily practice.
Michiel Koperdraat brings all of this together, combined with his own succinctly expressed experiences, into a clear and effective plan of action.

Practical Days

These are days or afternoons in which we practice and exercise what we discuss, allowing for active self-examination. Only experience sticks. We validate everything we know by actively engaging with it. For this purpose, there are a number of simple, fun, and creative activities and exercises available. But also experiments and mind-expanding non-doing. We discuss the experiences we gain from these activities, which include observed mental and emotional experiences.
If there is sufficient interest, an annual course week is organized in Greece.
This way, we can embark on a harmonious inner development journey, heading straight for our goal: discovering our own inner wisdom.

Interactive Lectures, Meetings, and Zooms

There are various approaches to gatherings that lead to the same core goal: inner freedom, self-realization, and expressive growth. Here are the following interactive lectures to choose from, suitable for small and large audiences:

.

  • The ‘Prescribed Reality’
It is logical that we refuse to live according to a prescribed reality. But why should we continue to follow the illusory reality we prescribe for ourselves? Let’s examine that ‘story.’
  • The Gentle Power of our Inner Anchor
What possibilities exist to confront and purify our perception, which often leads to a certain way of reacting? How do we learn to weather the storm without getting wet? Read an extensive announcement here.
  • What happened at Easter?
The Easter story (and indeed the entire Bible) is filled with wonders and parables, or metaphors. Behind the ‘story,’ esoteric knowledge is transmitted that is now understood by hardly anyone.
  • Who do you think you Are?
About acquiring knowledge of Consciousness and self-knowledge, by shedding or leaving behind conditionings, automatisms, preoccupations, and mindsets.
  • How healthy Is our ‘Common Sense’?
About our Ratio Center and its pure functioning, and about developing ‘Common Feeling’ (healthy feeling), or the purification of our Emotional Center.
  • Truly blossoming leads to Happiness!
The essence of existence in our universe is expression: blossoming. What is truly needed to achieve full expression? And what prevents us from doing so?
  • The Fourth Way – the Potential Evolution of Humanity
About the developmental philosophy of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky in the light of illuminating Vedic principles.
  • Speaking from the Self
When we realize our Self (through self-knowledge, discovering the Self), we naturally think, feel, and act in truth, and we no longer experience doubt. What is required for this?
